Arkansas State went toe-to-toe with a national power Saturday afternoon, trading punches with No. 14 Iowa State before ultimately falling 24-16 at Centennial Bank Stadium.

The Red Wolves (1-2) had the ball inside the Cyclones’ 30 with under five minutes to play, trailing by just one possession. But a stalled drive ended their upset bid against one of the highest-ranked opponents ever to visit Jonesboro.

Still, the effort left plenty of positives — and a few areas that must be cleaned up as Sun Belt play looms. Here’s our 3-2-1: Three things that went right, two that need correcting, and one bold prediction for the rest of the season.
