NCAA Set to Overhaul Transfer Portal Windows: January Period Proposed, Spring Window Eliminated
Big changes are on the horizon for college football’s transfer portal system. According to a report from ESPN, the NCAA FBS Oversight Committee has voted to move to a single transfer window in January while eliminating the long-standing spring transfer period.
Under the proposal, the new transfer portal window would last just 10 days, opening on January 2, 2026, the day after the College Football Playoff quarterfinals conclude. The Division I Administrative Committee must approve the recommendation before it becomes official, with a vote expected before October 1.
If approved, the new policy would significantly reshape the transfer landscape for student-athletes and coaches alike.
