Arkansas State will have an opportunity to put its season-opening loss behind it Saturday when the Red Wolves return to Centennial Bank Stadium for their home opener against West Georgia.
A-State enters the 6 p.m. game 0-1 after a 42-24 loss at Memphis, while West Georgia is 0-2 after losses to Chattanooga and Kennesaw State. Saturday will be the first meeting between the programs. West Georgia is in its third season competing at the FCS level.
The Red Wolves showed plenty of offensive potential in their opener, finishing with 434 yards, including 325 through the air. But Memphis rushed for 335 yards, and four A-State interceptions helped turn a competitive game into an 18-point loss.
West Georgia comes to Jonesboro having struggled offensively through two games. The Wolves are averaging 5 points and 189.5 yards per game, including only 43.5 yards rushing. They have converted just 8.7% of their third-down opportunities.
