Arkansas State coach Butch Jones said the Red Wolves must eliminate costly mistakes as they prepare for their next challenge against Southern Miss following a narrow loss to South Alabama.
Jones credited South Alabama and coach Major Applewhite for their physical play but said Arkansas State’s mistakes proved costly in a game the Red Wolves had an opportunity to push into overtime.
“You can’t turn the football over three times,” Jones said. “We gave up a catastrophic kickoff return for a touchdown. Couldn’t stop the run on defense. And then allowed them to go four for four on fourth-down conversions.”
