Arkansas State showed plenty of offensive potential in its season opener at Memphis, but Saturday’s home opener against West Georgia should provide another opportunity for the Red Wolves to begin figuring out exactly what they have.
The 42-24 loss wasn’t without encouraging signs. Arkansas State produced 434 yards, averaged 7.4 yards per play and moved into Memphis territory on 10 of its 11 possessions. The Red Wolves also forced two turnovers defensively. But four offensive turnovers and a Memphis rushing attack that piled up 335 yards ultimately overshadowed much of the good.
Coach Butch Jones has emphasized the importance of making a significant jump from the first game to the second, something that becomes even more important with so many newcomers playing meaningful snaps.
Arkansas State hosts West Georgia at 6 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium before traveling to TCU next week.
With that in mind, here are five Red Wolves we want to see more from in Week 2.
