JONESBORO — Arkansas State overcame a difficult shooting night and a late Toledo rally Monday night as Tameron Ferguson scored 20 points to lead the Red Wolves to a dramatic 71-70 victory over the Rockets in the season opener at First National Bank Arena.
The victory gave Arkansas State (1-0) a win in the fourth annual MAC-SBC Challenge and marked the Red Wolves’ first victory over Toledo in five all-time meetings.
Despite shooting just 35.7% from the field and converting only 10 of 23 free throws, Arkansas State found a way to win behind its defensive pressure, offensive rebounding and timely plays in the closing seconds.
