Arkansas State quarterback Trey Owens was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following his four-touchdown performance in the Red Wolves’ 38-32 homecoming victory over Georgia State.
Owens, a third-year quarterback from Houston, Texas, completed 21 of 32 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns Saturday while adding 36 rushing yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.
With the performance, Owens became just the 10th Arkansas State quarterback since 1995 to throw for multiple touchdowns and rush for multiple scores in the same game.
He is the first Red Wolves quarterback to accomplish the feat since Jaylen Raynor did so against Texas State last season.
Owens accounted for 345 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Arkansas State held off a late Georgia State rally to secure the six-point victory at Centennial Bank Stadium.
The performance marked Owens’ third game this season with multiple touchdown passes and his first with multiple rushing touchdowns.
Arkansas State enters its bye week before returning to Sun Belt Conference play against Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro.
