Arkansas State Opens Fall Camp Wednesday

For the first time in several years, Arkansas State enters preseason football camp with something it has been chasing throughout head coach Butch Jones’ tenure: legitimate expectations of competing for a Sun Belt Conference championship.

When the Red Wolves report Wednesday to begin fall camp, the focus will quickly shift from preseason projections to preparation for their Sept. 5 season opener at Memphis. National publications have already identified Arkansas State as one of the league’s top contenders after consecutive bowl victories and steady improvement under Jones, but the next several weeks will determine whether those expectations become reality.

The Red Wolves return one of the conference’s deepest rosters, highlighted by seven preseason First Team All-Sun Belt selections, experienced playmakers at running back and wide receiver, and one of the league’s premier kickers.

Still, Arkansas State has several significant questions to answer before opening kickoff.
